Red Carpet was one of the pre-Bookie’s venues that gave some nights to local non-cover band acts. A range of groups that would later establish themselves at Bookie’s started with one off shows at the Red Carpet.

According to The Concert Database, a first show was listed for 1967. But, the main run of the room appears to be between the early 1970s and early 1980s with a few additional shows later in the 1980s.

  1. I went to the Red Carpet quite a bit in the early 70s.There’s three bands that I remember that played there. The Rockets Mitch Ryder and Johnny Winter..

  2. Larry Hardy

Outstanding East Side bar for rock and socializing a personal favorite dive in in the mid to late 70’s. Joan Jett and Mitch Ryder were a couple of the bigger name bands I saw perform but there was also a host of very good Detroit groups.

  3. Had many zany evenings at “The Bloody Rug” back in the day both playing and just hanging out there.
It was a great venue for original Rock bands to hone their craft and sharpen up in preparation hopefully for the big time….:🤗
